You are an employee with little to no formal power? You don’t have anyone reporting to you? You are what some people call a “little employee”? You consider yourself as down there in the hierarchy, at the bottom? You feel you are the one doing all the work without getting credits? You feel disempowered and like your voice does not count? You have the impression that the guys “up there” have no idea what they are doing, are under qualified and/or overpaid?
Then this post is for you!
Even if you think there is not a lot you can do to change the company you work in, you are wrong. Because you are already making a huge difference every day, not so much by what you do, or in what position your are, or how much power you have got.
What truly makes a difference is THE HOW you are doing what you are doing and WHO you ARE while you are doing what you are doing. Independent of your status, your education or your role, you can always choose being
- kind
- compassionate
- friendly
- helpful
- smiling
- honest
- present
- attentive
- fun
- supportive
- proactive
- creative
- happy
- ..
all the things that are truly important and make a difference in life: we all know this person at the reception counter, and how he or she can influence the atmosphere in the reception lobby and start your day: by either smiling at you or being grumpy.
You have that superpower too. Just by the way you enter a room, you answer the telephone, you relate to your colleague, you challenge your leaders, you communicate with your clients you can immediately change the world you live in. Your laughter and positive vibrations will be propagating immediately and transform the energy of your environment. You don’t have to wait for anything to happen or be completed in order to smile at someone crossing your way.
Just imagine and organization, where 90% of people stop waiting for their leaders to allow or start a different behavior, but start creating the exact organization they want to work in best. There is absolutely no position too low to start a movement, even cleaning the toilet can be an act of highest dignity and value. You are part of an organization, and systems are always fractal: that means, if you change, the whole organizations is changed. Instantly.
You can stop waiting and start creating, from wherever you are right now. You can be a role model and a leader, no matter where you are or what you are, but by WHO you are. Be contagious with your generosity, full-heartedness, humanity and presence.
Yours, Julia
